A living room, a piano, and an invitation

The Left-Bank West Village Jazz Series began in February 2016 with a harpist, a bassist and a guitarist playing to friends in an apartment on West 11th Street. It has continued at the same address ever since, four or five times a year: a concert of two sets, a bar, food afterwards, and the musicians staying to talk.

The series is not a club and sells no tickets. Guests come by invitation, and the evenings exist so that musicians who play the city's stages can play a room where every listener is close enough to see their hands. In April 2025 the Dom Salvador Quintet was recorded here for the album Live at the Left-Bank West Village Jazz Series.

The host, Cheikh Kane, also organizes concerts in Senegal, where the series has travelled since 2018, and is building Institut Sangalkam, an education center near Dakar.

Concert recordings are published, as they are prepared, on the series' YouTube channel and embedded on each concert's page.
